Why not using a register like namecheap ? Print

  • 0

If you ever used namecheap you know they may have cheap .com .net .org domains and a pretty decent portal (although slow) ; the problem of using such domain registry is not the tooling they use, but the not personal support and being very slow in transferring websites and the limited amount of (and high pricing) of TLD's outside the gTLD range.  (think about all european extentions).

The worst part in our eyes is the slow handling of transfers, while they claim they can't speed up the transfer process this is absoltely not true; they can force any domain to leave their registry with push of the button but it is not in their intrest to do so, they want to make it hard for clients to move registries; we do not understand that, we believe that if a client wants to leave they should be able to leave when they want and not need to wait a 5 days for an automatic approval because namecheap does not want to speed it up: from their knowledgebase:

After approval Namecheap has 5 days to release your domain(s) as per ICANN Transfer policy. Unfortunately, the release process cannot be sped-up.
No where in the Transfer policy it says they need to wait 5 days, and yes it can simply be sped-up.

So our advice, don't use a large scale domain registry like namecheap but choose a good domain registry for your most important asset ! your domains !
